DEVELOPMENT OF T&CM SKILLS TRAINING IN MALAYSIA
T&CM skills training pathway involves development of National Occupational Skills Standards (NOSS) with the collaboration of Department of Skills Development (DSD), Ministry of Human Resources. A NOSS is a document that outlines the skills needed by a skilled worker who works in Malaysia for a particular sector and the level of employment as well as the path to achieve these skills.
The Malaysian Skills Certification is awarded by DSD based on the existing NOSS and can be obtained through the following methods:
1. Through training at accredited centres
Accredited centres refer to the skills training providers that are approved by the Department of Skills Development (DSD) to conduct skills training and to offer the Malaysian Skills Certification in certain skills levels and fields based on the NOSS. Accredited training centres by DSD can be found at https://www.myspike.my/index.php?r=umum-pb%2Findex-umum-program
2. Through industry-oriented training
Through apprenticeship under the National Dual Training System (NDTS) conducted in industries and skills training institutes.
3. Through accreditation of prior achievement
A candidate qualifies for the Malaysian Skills Certificate (MSC) based on past experience (work or training) without having to sit for any examination. However, the candidate is required to submit proof of skills competencies acquired in order to be assessed by the Assessing Officer and approved by the External Verification Officer appointed by the DSD
At present, 10 NOSS have been developed for T&CM recognised practice areas as follows:
Availability of NOSS in Recognized Practice Areas does not automatically mean that the NOSS qualification has been recognised for the purpose of practitioner registration with the T&CM Council.
