NOTIFICATION OF LIST OF PROHIBITED TITLES AND ABBREVIATIONS
We are pleased to inform that the Notification of List of Prohibited Titles and Abbreviations was gazetted on 14 April 2022 with the date of coming into operation of this Notification on 15 April 2022.
The publication of this Notification in the Federal Government Gazette is in accordance with subsection 29 (3) of the Traditional and Complementary Medicine (T&CM) Act 2016 [Act 775] which states “The Council shall specify and publish a list of prohibited titles and abbreviations through notification in the Gazette”.
Pursuant to subsections 29 (4) and (5) of Act 775, a registered practitioner shall not use any title or abbreviation which has been prohibited by the T&CM Council as listed in the Notification’s Schedule. If a registered practitioner has been found to have used any prohibited title or abbreviation as specified in the Notification’s Schedule, the T&CM Council may place the practitioner on a watch-list register.
According to subsection 29(6) of Act 775, the Council shall, if the practitioner, within twenty-four months of being placed on the watch-list register, uses a prohibited title or abbreviation, revoke the registration of such practitioner.
The notification can be downloaded from the T&CM Division official website and can be used as a guide and reference for all T&CM practitioners. All registered T&CM practitioners are advised to comply with this Notification.
