CREDIT TRANSFER FOR TRADITIONAL AND COMPLEMENTARY MEDICINE (T&CM) PROGRAMMES FROM LOCAL AND INTERNATIONAL HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS
The following are the criteria for credit transfer for T&CM programmes from local and international higher education institutions as approved by the T&CM Council during the T&CM Council Meeting No. 1/2023:
- Credit transfer requires each subject to be individually matched (subject mapping), and uniformity in curriculum content is allowed up to a maximum of 80%. An exemption of 30–40% from the total study duration is allowed for professional programmes, while a maximum exemption of 50% credit transfer is allowed for non-professional programmes.
- Applications for credit transfer between institutions will be considered on a case-by-case basis to ensure that the previous programme is compatible with the new programme to be undertaken. If necessary, additional proof related to the previous programme must be provided after the transfer.
- The finalised credit transfer criteria are as follows:
- the student is still registered at the same university; and
- only between recognised universities as listed in the T&CM Registration Guidelines for the respective recognised practice area; and
- students from T&CM institutions and programmes with provisional accreditation status in Malaysia may apply for credit transfer to T&CM institutions and programmes with full accreditation status in the respective recognized practice area. Credit transfer to T&CM institutions and programmes with only provisional accreditation is not allowed; and
- students must meet the minimum entry criteria and admission qualifications for a given T&CM programme in accordance with the requirements of the T&CM Programme Standards: Second Edition; and
- if the curriculum content between the receiving and originating institutions has 80% or more similarity, exemption is allowed for up to 30% of the total study duration; and
- if the curriculum content between the receiving and originating institutions is identical (100%), horizontal credit transfer at the same qualification level is permitted, provided the student continues studies at the receiving institution for at least two years; and
- the total study duration must not be less than stipulated in the T&CM Programme Standards: Second Edition for the qualification level to be recognised for practitioner registration purposes; and
- both horizontal and vertical credit transfers are permitted.
