            A CASE REPORT
Makhbul MZM, Shapeen IM, Wan Hassan WN

Case report: A 26-year-old man with an aggressive periodontitis sought for orthodontic
treatment to improve the appearance of his smile. He presented with generalised anterior
spacing, missing lower left central incisor and deep traumatic bite. He was treated
successfully with a combination of orthodontic and periodontal treatment. After 18
months of orthodontic treatment and follow up by the periodontist, alignment of his teeth
improved, a stable occlusion achieved, and occlusal trauma has been prevented. As a
result, the patient’s smile appearance and self- confidence improved. Orthodontic tooth
movement has corrected the alignment of his teeth and improved the bone level in the
anterior region particularly. Conclusion: This case report showed a good collaboration
between the orthodontist and the periodontist is required in ensuring a successful
orthodontic treatment outcome of aggressive periodontitis patient.
