Objective: To determine the types of paediatric cases seen in the combined clinic sessions
held by the Selayang Hospital dental department. Materials and Method: This cross-
sectional study with retrospective data collection was designed involving the paediatric
cases of children aged 16 years and below presented in the combined clinic of Selayang
Hospital dental department from 1st January 2017 until 31st of December 2019. The data
were collected from patient records included patient age, gender, referring clinician and
types of cases. Results: A total of 88 (44 males and 48 females) paediatrics cases were seen
in the combined clinic of Selayang Hospital dental department from 1st January 2017 until
31st of December 2019. Of these, 52% cases were referred by General dentists and the
remaining cases by orthodontists. The medically compromised patients made up 11.3% of
referral cases. The prime reason for referral was impacted teeth (62.5%) which most
commonly for impacted canines (19.3%). Slightly more than half of patients with oro-facial
clefts was referred for orthognathic assessments (53.3%), while 46.7% for arterial bone
grafts (ABG). Conclusion: A strong multidisciplinary referral system clinic, apart from being
an efficient means of delivering patient care and provide a continuing education resource,
also increased patient satisfaction, better health outcomes, reduced cost of care and time
saving. Acknowledgement: The authors would like to acknowledge the Clinical Research
Centre of Selayang Hospital and the Director General of the Ministry of Health Malaysia for
