EARLY MANAGEMENT OF PALATALLY DISPLACED CENTRAL INCISOR IN A SKELETAL III
PATIENT: A CASE REPORT
N Nisreen, N Nathan
Introduction: Majority of orthodontic treatment for patient with skeletal III base will
commence once patient reached their full skeletal maturity. However, there are certain
exceptions that call for early treatment. The objective of this clinical report is to highlight a
case that calls for early intervention in a skeletal III base children. Case report: A 11-year-
old Malay female presented with Class III malocclusion on skeletal III base with average
vertical proportion complicated by palatally erupted and rotated upper right central
incisor, crowding, reverse overjet of -4.5mm with retrusive maxilla and deviation of chin to
the left. The treatment was initiated with upper fixed appliance to open up space to expand
and align the displaced incisor. No tooth removal was done during the course of treatment.
Treatment was completed within 2 years and a bonded retainer was placed. Patient is being
reviewed yearly to monitor growth and to commence comprehensive treatment once she
has reached skeletal maturity. Outcome: Early intervention in resolving the upper arch
crowding may reduce the time needed for second phase of orthodontic treatment.
