PROMOTION OF DENTAL OFFICER
Promotion matters are handled by the Human Resources Division, Ministry of Health Malaysia Starting in 2010, Y.A.B the Prime Minister has announced the improvement of the career paths of Medical Officers, Dental Officers and Pharmacy Officers in the Ministry of Health Malaysia which accelerates the promotion period. The promotion period for Dental Officer Grade U41 to Grade U54 is 12 years while the promotion period for Specialist Dental Officer Grade U41 to Grade U54 is 9 years. The promotion decision is subject to the certificate of the Promotion Board, KKM; For Specialist Dental Officers, it is necessary to be in a certain grade for a certain period or subject to the vacancy whichever is earlier. DENTAL SPECIALTIES OFFERED AND RECOGNISED BY THE MINISTRY OF HEALTH (MOH) MALAYSIA
The following dental disciplines are recognised as specialties :
The Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH) offers scholarships to dental officers through the grant of the Hadiah Latihan Persekutuan (HLP) annually to further their studies in Master / Ph.D / Area of Special Interest. The application procedure is managed by the Training Management Division MOH [Bahagian Pengurusan Latihan, KKM (BPL KKM)]. Application can be made online via the eHLP Application System. The basic requirements of the application to be followed by an officer are as follows : In addition to the above conditions, officers must comply with the following additional requirements: Appropriate and brilliant attitude; Good soft skills, High interest in the area of expertise chosen; Knowledgeable and sensitivite to the current situation; and Able to communicate well in Malay and English. All applications will be shortlisted and only applicants who fulfilled the requirements as advertised shall be called for the interview.
No. They need to undergo a pre-gazettement periods under a supervising specialist and be gazetted before they can be considered as specialists themselves. The pre-gazettement period for officers is as follows :
Dental specialists who have been gazetted have an opportunity of getting promoted to higher grades faster compared to a non-specialist officers. There is an additional grade; Grade 56 which being created as a specialist career path.
PLACEMENT EXCHANGE
First Year Dental Officers (FYDOs) are required to complete FYDO training and in-state placement in their second year before they can be transferred to another state.
There are two procedures. For exchange abroad: i- Fill in the exchange form. You can get this form from your District Dental Health Office. Ketua Setiausaha, and a copy to: Pengarah Kanan Kesihatan Pergigian
For internal exchange: Please consult your District Dental Health Office for more information.
ii- Submit to your District Dental Officer (SDO) along with supporting documents. eg: marriage certificate, medical records (if any)
iii- Your SDO will submit your application to your State Deputy Director of Health (Dental).

All applications for transfer from one state to another will be brought to a meeting held periodically every 3 months. If the application is approved, a letter will be issued to you by the Human Resources Division, Ministry of Health Malaysia. The effective date of the exchange will be stated on your exchange letter. The validity period of the exchange application is 3 years. You need to reapply after the validity period expires.
You can submit a letter of cancellation to the Human Resources Division, Ministry of Health Malaysia through certain channels such as a change request.
