ORTHODONTICS

Orthodontics is a branch of dentistry that specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of patient with irregularities of the teeth and imbalance between the size of jaw and teeth. Generally, orthodontics treatment may be carried out through fixed or removable appliances, and if required, together with jaw surgery. 

The aim of orthodontics treatment is to improve oral health, function and appearance of the teeth and jaws. 

 

Scope of Service

  1. Providing orthodontics treatment to Malaysian citizens with malocclusion
  2. Monitoring development of dentition and jaws 
  3. Monitoring dentition during retention/passive phase.

Orthodontics referrals

Orthodontics Units in the Ministry of Health (MOH) facilities, Malaysia receives orthodontics referrals from Primary Oral Healthcare Facilities and from other specialities. Orthodontics referrals should follow the latest referral guidelines prepared by the Oral Health Program, Ministry of Health, Malaysia (2022).

Currently, there are a total of 73 orthodontics units in oral healthcare facilities of MOH across Malaysia, providing high quality orthodontics treatment by well-trained orthodontists.
