ORAL & MAXILLOFACIAL SURGERY (OMFS)

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) is the surgical arm of dentistry and has always been the bridge between medicine and dentistry. This specialty is responsible for the diagnosis and surgical and adjunctive treatment of the diseases, conditions, and injuries to the mouth, jaws, face, head, neck, and associated structures. This specialty is an evolving field and the newly introduced techniques have widened the scope of OMFS. Today, the scope of the OMFS practice continues to expand and services offered as follows:
- Dentaoalveolar Surgery
Surgery to the teeth and its supporting structure (alveolar bone and gum).
- Orofacial Pathology
Examination and investigation of the causes, processes and effects of diseases that start in the mouth or jaw.
- Oral and Maxillofacial Trauma
Treatment involving trauma to the face and jaw resulting most commonly from sports, accidents, or violence.
- Oral and Maxillofacial Oncology and Reconstructive Surgery
Comprehensive care to patients diagnosed with cancers/malignant and benign tumors involving the face, mouth, jaws, and neck
- Cleft Lip and Palate Surgery
Cleft lip and cleft palate are incomplete formation of the upper lip (cleft lip) or roof of the mouth (cleft palate) can occur individually, or both defects may occur together. The conditions can vary in severity and may involve one or both sides of the mouth. Surgery is required to repair cleft lip and/or cleft palate.
- Temporomandibular Joint Disorders
Temporomandibular joint disorders are disorders of the temporomandibular joints and its surrounding structure (muscle, joint, ligament and nerve). These disorders affected jaw movements and mouth opening. Ultimately, it leads to clicking and chronic pain.
- Dental Implantology
The insertion of medical devices into the jaw bone to replace the roots and has attachments of artificial teeth on top of it.
- Salivary Gland Disease
Diagnosis, treatment, and surgical procedure to the salivary gland.
- Cosmetic Surgery limited to face, head, and neck
- Congenital Craniofacial
Craniofacial anomalies (CFA) are a diverse group of deformities in the growth of the head and facial bones. These abnormalities are present at birth (congenital), and there are numerous variations.
- Orofacial Pain
Orofacial Pain describes symptoms of pain and/or dysfunction arising from the regions of the face and mouth.
- Coronectomy
The technique of coronectomy is defined as removing the crown of a tooth but leaving the roots untouched, so that the possibility of nerve damage is reduced. Coronectomy is a preferable technique for patients who run a risk of injury to the inferior alveolar nerve during third molar surgery.
- 3D Planning for Implant Design/Orofacial Reconstruction
Software used that enable the surgeons to perform 3D simulation and create surgical guides directly on computer.
- Interventive Radiology to Retrieve Foreign Body
Foreign body retrieval is the removal, retrieval or manipulation of an item that has been introduced from the outside using image guidance.
