MALIGNANT TRANSFORMATION OF ODONTOGENIC CYST: THE UNUSUAL

Mohd Shahrin SZ, Nurul Muzirah M, Saridah M

Dentigerous cyst is the most common type of developmental odontogenic cyst associated
with an unerupted tooth. The clinical presentation of dentigerous cyst and other forms of
pathology such as Odontogenic Keratocyst may be misconceived by radiological findings.
Therefore, histopathological input by performing biopsy is the gold standard in assisting
the definitive diagnosis. The prognosis for dentigerous cyst is usually excellent, and the
recurrence is rare. Although odontogenic cysts are benign lesions, estimated 0.13% and
3% could undergo malignant transformation with lesser occurrence on the maxillary
region. The growth rate may be quite rapid after the biopsy is done. We report a case of
52-year-old gentlemen who presented with a malignant transformation of odontogenic
            cyst into squamous cell carcinoma.
