MALAYSIA NURSING BOARD.

Introductions

Malaysia Nursing Board that oversees training and discipline of nurses to ensure the practice of nursing in the country is carried out as stipulated under the Nurses Act 1950 & Nurses Registration Regulations 1985. The practice of nursing requires specialized knowledge, skill, and independent decision making. The core function of the Malaysia Nursing Board is to establish and improve standards of nursing care to protect the public

Functions

  • To keep and maintain the Register of nurses
  • To regulate the nursing practice

Nursing Board Members

(1) The Nursing Board established under section 3 of the Act shall consist of:

(a) six ex-officio members who shall be-

(i) the Director General of Health, Malaysia;

(ii) the Director of Training and Manpower, Ministry of Health;

(iii) the Director of Medical Services, Sarawak;

(iv) the Director of Medical Services, Sabah;

(v) the Principal Matron, Ministry of Health;

(vi) the Assistant Principal Matron (Training), Ministry of Health;

(b) six Nurse Tutors, five of whom shall be Sister Tutors and the other either a Sister Tutor or a Male Tutor to be appointed by the Minister

(c) nine registered nurses to be appointed by the Minister.

(2) Every member appointed by the Minister shall hold office for a period of three years unless a lesser period is specified in the instrument of appointment.

MIDWIFE BOARD.

1.INTRODUCTION

Malaysia Midwifery Board that oversees training and discipline of nurses to ensure the practice of midwives in the country carried out as stipulated under the Midwives Act 1966 & Midwives Regulations 1990. The practice of midwives requires specialized knowledge, skill, and independent decision making. The core function of the Malaysia Midwifery Board is to establish and improve standards of midwifery care to protect the public

2.FUNCTION

  • Regulate the course of training, conduct of examination, issue of diplomas, certificate and badges
  • To regulate the practice of midwifery and conduct of midwives

3.MALAYSIAN MIDWIFRY BOARD MEMBERS (MIDWIFE ACT 1966)

There shall be established a Midwives Board (hereinafter referred to as “the Board”) which shall consist of the following members:

  • the Director General, who shall be the Chairman;
  • the Principal Matron, Ministry of Health, who shall be the secretary;
  • the Assistant Principal Matron (Health);
  • the Assistant Principal Matron (Training);
  • four midwifery tutors to be appointed by the Minister representing the following:
  1. tutor of training of nurse student midwives;
  2. tutor of training of student midwives;
  3. tutor of training of rural nurses; and
  4. tutor of training of either community nurses or rural health nurses;
  • three nurses to be appointed by the Minister representing the following:
  1. State Matrons;
  2. Health Matrons and;
  3. maternity hospitals or units;
  • two midwives to be appointed by the Minister representing the following:
  1. midwives registered under Part II of the Register; and
  2. midwives registered under Part III of the register
  • two medical practitioners in the public service to be appointed by the Minister representing the following:
  1. State Directors of Medical and Health Services; and
  2. Obstetricians; and
  • two registered medical practitioners to be appointed by the Minister representing the following:
  1. Malaysian Medical Council; and
  2. Malaysian Medical Association.
